Aligning Minds

Dr. Brandi created Aligning Minds to offer hope to children and parents that are experiencing neurodevelopmental disorders. The Aligning Minds program incorporates chiropractic, optimal nutrition, myofascial/cranial-sacral techniques and neurofunctional exercises into one comprehensive program. The focus of this program is to naturally support the body- brain, gut, spine and immune system, working together in balance to help children achieve their maximum life potential.

Common Conditions we work with: ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Developmental Delays, Cerebral Palsy, Learning Disorders, Failure to Thrive.
The Aligning Minds program is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, but to support neuro-biomechanical, neuro-immune, neuro-gastric and neuro-muscular dysfunction naturally.

The Brain

The brain develops rapidly in the first years of a child’s life and is most sensitive to good nutrition between mid-gestation and two years old. As babies develop they are creating more and more synapses-nerve connections- in the brain and operate like a super highway of information between the brain and the body. Occasionally the nerve messages can get into a traffic jam if the sensory systems are not in balance.

The Gut

The brain and the gut have a unique connection and are closely intertwined. Did you know that 90% of the neurotransmitter serotonin, a mood chemical, is produced in the gut? It is important to have a balance of gut flora- the good bacteria, to maintain a strong, healthy GI system and help keep the rest of the body working well.

The Musculoskeletal System

Chropractic adjustment help to remove any interference that block nerve messages affecting overall function. The proprioceptive and vestibular sensory systems need to be balance to help us know where our bodies are and how to move without being clumsy or falling over.

The Immune System

The gut, brain and immune system are closely tied together. Many kids with neurodevelopmental disorders are stuck in full-throttle go mode. They have poor autonomic control of their nervous system meaning that they have trouble winding down. This causes stress on the whole body and especially the immune system leading to common ailments such as eczema, allergies, asthma, constipation, chronic ear/sinus infections, ect.

Primitive Reflex Integration

All babies are born with reflexes that help them during the birthing process and protect them in the first months of life. Examples include the rooting and sucking reflexes that help babies cue that they are hungry and latch to eat. These reflexes should integrate at certain times during the first year allowing adult reflexes to develop. If primitive reflexes do not integrate well or not at all, sensory systems can get overloaded. If a primitive reflex is found to be retained there are specific integration maneuvers that can be performed that help it integrate properly.
